We here at King Shit have a pretty strong belief that any publication worth a damn should be accessible to those who read it.
To that end, we have an open call for submissions at all times. Now, keep in mind we do NOT pay for web submissions (anything that runs in the print mag, you will get paid for), but we’re down to give anyone who reads our site a chance to contribute and get a little exposure for themselves.
This doesn’t mean we’ll post just any old crap. Our editors will go through what’s submitted and post what they think is good. Sorry kids, we’re pretty open-minded, but some stuff just isn’t ready for public consumption.
All submission inquiries should be sent to submissions@kingshit.org
Here are a few guidelines:
Each week we publish our SpyCam and Gallery articles, featuring unrelated, one-off pieces of visual and photographic art. That means we rely heavily on people sending in their artwork and photos, so the chances of getting your stuff published are pretty damn good. If you’re an established artist who’d like to collaborate on something, we’re down for that too. JPGs at 300 dpi resolution are ideal. Anything smaller than that likely won’t work.
Short stories should be that—short. 2500 words is the maximum we have space for online, but we’re always willing to take a peek at something longer for one of our upcoming print editions. Word, TXT or RTF documents are the only formats we’ll look at. Please, don’t send shit in that has no spaces between words or is lacking the use of even a single capital letter. It’ll get deleted immediately. Using all lowercase letters isn’t an art form, it’s just retarded.
If you’re a filmmaker or animator looking for exposure, by all means send us your stuff. We’re interested in just about every genre, but we generally like to keep the length under 15 minutes. Contact us for submission details.
If there was an art show you went to and took pictures at (and not just of your drunk friends, but of the actual art), we’re more than happy to post it if you can string a few words together to go along with it. Same thing goes for upcoming gallery shows, if you’ve got an event coming up, let us know and we’ll help promote the hell out of it.
We generally like to interview people ourselves, but if you’ve got an interview with someone notable (either in print or on video), we’d love to check it out.
If you are a company, author or filmmaker and would like to submit something for one of our PREVIEW articles, feel free to contact us. Generally, we prefer 5 or 10 minutes of a film, and 2,500 words worth of prose. If it’s an art book, we have space for up to 10 preview pages.
Absolutely, 100% down to publish comics online. E-mail us for details.
If you’ve got a product you’d like us to check out, send it to our mailing address. We make no promises it’ll make it online, but it’s a pretty safe bet it will.
